Vila Nova de Paiva is a Portuguese village in the district of Viseu, located in the province of Beira Alta, Centro region (Beiras Region) and sub-region Viseu Dão-Lafões, with about 1,200 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 175.53 km² in area and 5 176 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 5 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north and east by the municipality of Moimenta da Beira, to the east and south by Sátão, to the southwest by Viseu, to the north by Tarouca and to the northwest by Castro Daire.
Arbutus do Demo Botanical Park. It is one of the emblematic projects of the municipality of Vila Nova de Paiva and certainly one of the most important and significant among those developed in recent decades. Especially for its multidisciplinary character, covering the areas of environment, leisure, tourism, culture and even science.
The Park, where more than a thousand different botanical species are gathered. A space where they can be admired from the small bryophytes to the giant Sequoia sempervirens, in a remarkable aesthetic and environmental harmony.
On the hills, hares, rabbits and partridges are bred in abundance; in the woods and pine forests, the rolls; in the fields, quails; and in the mountains, in addition to the partridge, the woodcock, pigeons and wild ducks.
There is an abundance of local hunters; but they are not alone in hitting the mountain and decorating the belt. They come from afar to hunt on the same ground. Caravans of automobiles that are not only men, are lined up on the hunting ground, beside the road where it is sniffed. (...)
In the past, fishing has been abundant and of superior quality. Paiva is the classic river of tasty and appreciated trout. It is very special to fish in its tributaries and in the streams that walk towards them, especially in the Covo River. These trout have a salmon color, with meat that is harder and tastier. The reason is because they live in colder water.
The Alto Paiva Archaeological Museum is a new generation space where the history of the territory covered by the Paiva River basin is told, from its most distant origins to the Modern Period.
Rural Museum of Pendilhe. This Museum participates in the definition of the Alto Paiva Rural Center which, in geographical and economic continuity, integrates parishes in the municipalities of Vila Nova de Paiva and Castro Daire.
