Viscondes da Varzea is a charming hotel set in an aristocratic, rustic-style mansion dating back to the 17th century. It is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and olive trees in the heart of the Douro region. The Hotel Rural Casa dos Viscondes da Varzea is an example of the Gothic-Manueline architecture of Portugal. The marvels at the site include a chapel with a Baroque altar, century-old cellars and the oil press, still in use.
The hotel's atmospheric rooms have antique furniture and a luxurious bathroom with a bathtub and a complimentary bathrobe and slippers. Decorative elements include stone handrails and baroque chalices.
There is also an elevated saltwater swimming pool and a tennis court. During the harvest months, guests can participate in the wine pressing and join in folkloric dinners accompanied by concertina music.
