The municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar is situated in the heart of the Vila Real district and is surrounded by the municipality of Boticas, Chaves, Ribeira de Pena, Vila Real, Sabrosa, Alijó, Valpaços and Murça.
An old town, it displays several interesting houses and mansions, such as the House from the Top of the Street. At the foot of the Padrela mountain, nestled in the green landscape, the small and graceful Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Conceição offers a beautiful panorama of the city and the fertile plains of the Aguiar valley.
Its territory was known in the beginnings of nationality as the lands of Aguiar de Pena, name taken from the old castle with the same designation, whose name Aguiar guesses to him of the fact of being a village of eagles.
