Description Valpaços

The territory of the county of Valpaços has had vestiges of occupation since prehistory, but the most outstanding people were the Romans, who left roads and bridges that made the communication between Portugal and Spain.

Its name originates before nationality, as evidenced by the documents in which the name Vale de Paço, Vale de Paços and finally Valpaços were first mentioned.

The parish began as a small town inhabited by nobles and noble families, attracted by a set of privileges tending to populate that region so close to Spain.

The gastronomic offer of the region is well known at national level due to the quality of its products. Honey, smoked, wine, folar, pastels, ham, mushrooms, kid, barrosan and maronesa meat, olive oil and chestnut are the most important gastronomic attractions.
