The Municipality of Santa Marta de Penaguião is in the heart of the "Duriense Region" and is almost entirely integrated in the Douro Demarcated Region.
This territory presents vestiges of human occupation very remote and proof of this are some fortifications castrejas that are by all the territory, as in Fontes, Lobrigos, Cumieira, Louredo and Medrões.
Its heady landscape with views of the river Douro and the vineyards that occupy all the terraces of the county, are a business card.
Gastronomy is another wealth of this county.
All dishes are accompanied by bread and port wine produced here. The most common dishes are: the feijoada to Transmontana, the fire with rice in the clay oven, the "mass of weddings", the "Bazulaque", the stew of tortas, and the traditional Portuguese stew.
