The seventeenth / eighteenth century will be the probable time for the construction of the bell tower of the parish church of Santa Cristina. On 1 November 1755, the church did not suffer ruin in the earthquake.

On May 11, 1809, the church was destroyed by General Loison's troops during the 2nd French invasion, commanded by Soult. The cult started to be celebrated in the chapel of the old manor of Picota.
1826 is the year of the bell of the Church of Santa Cristina, having a prominent image of Santa Cristina and which is currently in the convent church, next to the current building of the Paços do Concelho.
On May 28, 1834, after the departure of the Franciscan friars from the village convent, the parishioners of Santa Cristina abusively seized the Church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, converting it, with all their belongings, into its parish church.
