Located in the square named after him (Praça do Pelourinho), it dates back to the Roman Period. It was the first medieval symbol of Local Power, where criminals were hung and exposed publicly.

Mesão Frio
The reign of D. Afonso III contributed for the implantation of this symbol to be a constant in all municipalities as a local power of judgment, as it was in the parishes of Barqueiros, Mesão Frio - Santo André and Vila Marim.
From the sixteenth century, pillories served essentially to display public notices.
This pillory consists of a platform with 3 steps, the octagonal base, the column and the finish with 4 rings at the top, forming a cross.
