The watchtower is the smallest of the fortifications that constituted the defensive ensemble of vila nova de Cerveira, since the most remote times, guaranteeing also with its participation in the defense of Minho.

Description
It is located in Serra da Gávea, to the west of the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, at the elbow of the hill, from which you can see the entire vast area of the Minho River, from the lands of Valença to the territory of Caminha.
It is a small circular block, currently covered by dense undergrowth, composed of small vegetation and leafy mimosas. Once the ogival door has been crossed and the five steps have gone up, we are on a walkway that communicates with the openings based on dog kills, intended for the placement of artillery pieces. Due to their arrangement, they could cover the entire area of the river and the valley. The defense of the fortress and the area intended for the small garrison was ensured by a stone wall, at the bottom of which a ditch was opened with an appreciable depth and difficult, or almost impossible, to transpose, as it still stands at about three meters.
Although its current structure gives us evidence that it is a datable construction of the Restoration wars, at least, we can report it at the Fernandina time or at the beginning of the second dynasty, which is suggested to us by the kills that supported the openings destined for cannons, whose mission was to support the Castle of Cerveira and the Fort of Lovelhe, which because they are very close to the river were, given this location, much more vulnerable.
