Vila Nova de Cerveira has an occupation dating back to the Bronze Age, its relevance is high with the attribution of the Charter of Foral by D. Dinis, was the year 1321, and through which was ordered to build the Castle of Cerveira, currently one of the main ex-libris most visited by tourists who are enchanted by its architectural particularity and the beauty of the landscape that it enjoys.
But Cerveira is also the 'Village of the Arts', an internationally recognized 'cognomen' resulting from the pioneering of the International Art Biennials, which began in 1978. The Council was then the meeting point of artists from all over the world.
