Castle Melgaço
Perched on a hill overlooking the village, we find this ancient fortification, witness the first moments of Portuguese nationality. Which was built by Dom Afonso Henriques in the twelfth century / XIII, this ancient castle left us just a keep of square plan, with three floors and tile coverage, and part of the old wall of the medieval village.
Located in an old watchtower, it provides us with superb views of the surrounding mountains and on the historic center of town, with its narrow streets and stone houses.
Misericordia Church
It is right in the historic center of town we found this nice Romanesque building dating from the thirteenth century, to which the House adossa Consistory.
Go through the arch of two archivolts portal, entering the interior, where we can admire in the center of the cross bow, a badge with the weapons of Mercy. Also deserve mention the altarpieces in gilt, Mannerist and Baroque and neoclassical altarpiece. In the churchyard, be sure to peek at two medieval antropormórficas graves.
Church of Melgaço
Although its construction date of 1187, the setting that today we can enjoy is the result of extensive renovations that was targeted. It was much altered in the baroque period, having remained nonetheless two interesting Romanesque portals that are worth admiring.
Go through one of these portals, which is located on the main facade, taking the opportunity to see the interior, which stands on the left side chapel, an altarpiece from the late sixteenth century by António Figueiroa.
Archaeological ruins of Republic Square
Lying under the ground, to go down to a small stairs that lead to an interesting medieval moat.
In here we can see a set of well preserved archaeological ruins and some vestiges related to the ancient fortress. Passing through the gap, jump to view some remains of an armor stone and various sidewalks dating from different periods. To help us better understand what we observe, there are some informative panels that take us to the defensive system of the village since the thirteenth century to the seventeenth century.
Alvarinho
One th century house, Mother House of the Albariño Wine Route and also dubbed "Building the Three Arches." Opened in 1997 in the building that previously housed the town hall and jail, this space was created to meet the need of a place to promote and disseminate the famous Albariño wine.
This is the ideal place for a test! Here we can also meet other typical products, which bring in traditional and cultural roots of Melgaço people.
Church / Convent of Carvalhiças
Church and Convent of Carvalhiças, also called Convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. This former convent, we find addorsed the right side of the church, it was built in the eighteenth century and belonged to the Conception Province. Looking carefully, we see what was once the old convent, now private property linked to agricultural production.
Source of St. John
One of the main squares of the town, surrounded by several other works of interest, we find the Fountain of St. John, a baroque building from the eighteenth century.
In eighteenth-century style, this monument was originally built on the site of Roasted and transferred to the current site only in 1903.
This source backed deserves a look out for its elaborate decoration, boasting seven inscriptions and a central niche. In the center, there is a frown flanked by two snakes, a representation of Agnus Dei, a coat of arms and a sculpture representing St. John baptizing Christ.
Cruise / Chapel of Saint Julian
Set of popular Gothic art. Perched on a platform overlooking the road, looms a small chapel in a very simple lines, believed to have belonged to the medieval Gafaria. Watch in its Romanesque-Gothic details that take us back to the thirteenth century (probable date of its construction), highlighting the main portal broken back and single arch
Church of Our Lady of Orada
Located on the outskirts of the village, this church is, since its construction in the thirteenth century, a center of great devotion. Your place name "Oratory", by the way, means place of prayer and pilgrimage. The contrast between the architectural wealth of the temple and the peace of the site give it a mysticism that makes this truly lovely place
Parish Church of Chaviães
The Parish Church of Chaviães, or Church of Mary Magdalene, is part of the legacy of interesting characteristic temples that exist in the region. The primitive Romanic structure, dated thirteenth century left axial portal with two archivolts and the Northern portal with smooth eardrum. Watch out, all over the property, the rich and varied decoration, which has similarities with the Church of Our Lady of Oratory.
Melgaço House of Culture
States today as a promotional space and promotion of cultural heritage of the county, allowing visitors to experience the culture and soul of the land, while participating in various initiatives of cultural and social nature.
Monastery / Convent of Fiães
Romanesque church disappeared Fiães Monastery, also known as the Convent of Santa Maria de Fiães.
Its origin is no consensus among historians: while some argue that this is a building of the Cistercian Order, others believe that part of the monument is the oldest, dating from the time when the Benedictine Order lived here in the mid-twelfth century.
Church / Convent of Paderne
Church of Paderne Convent, also known as Church of the Divine Savior, belonging to the former Convent of Paderne.
The convent originally belonged to a female Order that, in 1225, was replaced by the Order of Canons Regular of St. Augustine. It was this Order, moreover, that forty years later, built the Romanesque church.
This former convent cloister remain only three faces, despite being in ruins, worth a visit for the superb architectural details.
Parish Church of Lamas de Mouro
This imposing Romanesque church was built in the Middle Ages, having undergone extensive renovations during the Modern and Contemporary Era. Climb the stairs two border, cross the portal - which highlights a sculptural set representing two human figures, which local people said to be Adam and Eve
Castelo de Castro Laboreiro
Ancient fortress of Castro Laboreiro and at the same time, enjoy the most beautiful views that has Melgaço.
To get there, the path is not easy, having to go up much of the foot to reach about 1033 meters of altitude. When we got here, though, we forget all the way left behind, as the beauty and magnificence of what surrounds us.
The old medieval fortification, almost in ruins, we uncover remains of the walls, the keep and an old cistern. The main door, called Gate of the Sun, is visible from the eastern side, while the Port of Treason or toad, on the north side, gives us access to the inner yard.
Church of Castro Laboreiro
Parish Church of Castro Laboreiro, also known as Church of St. Mary of the Visitation.
Here we can foresee traces of its original construction, with pre-Romanesque and Gothic elements, but some elements who denounce the deep reforms that suffered and denoting Galician influences.
Old Bridge of Cava
This Roman bridge stands on the Laboreiro river, in the Peneda-Geres National Park. It was originally built around the first century and later, in medieval times, was adapted, being transformed into a bridge board on easel and two bows. This medieval building can still glimpse the floor composed of large slabs and stone guards that connect, on both sides, to a Roman road.
Bridge of Cainheiras
Cainheiras the bridge, a fine example of the bridges built over the Roman Empire, probably between century I and II. Belonged to the Roman road that ran to Castro Laboreiro and Porto Knights, having witnessed for centuries the passage of the Roman legions, the fair way to traders and even pilgrims.
Memory space and Border
The Museum Center "Memory and Frontier" is dedicated to the history of the county, related to smuggling and immigration. With this space, we intend to recall past lives Melgacense people, the difficulties imposed by its remarkable history.

The Film Museum
The Cinema Museum - Jean Loup Passek, is a dynamic museum. It is a space to review the film memories, where visitors are regularly surprised with objects, posters or photos related to the movies. The ground floor houses a permanent exhibition, offering us an insight into the history of cinema. The first floor is devoted to temporary exhibitions.
From machinery or objects Pre Cinema, to original posters on canvas, photographs and other documents, can be seen at the cinema museum. The exhibition illustrates the film path over time

Museum Center of Castro Laboreiro
Built at the headquarters of the former Caravelos the Chocolate Factory and a typical house fortified, attached, aims to preserve and disseminate aspects related to landscape and local experiences, particularly with regard to Brandas and At Inverneiras and portray the culture castreja. This space is a documentation center that brings together a series of photographic documents and documentaries on Castro Laboreiro.
This core has a room where Neolithic and other visitors can leave their testimony, thus contributing to the dynamism of the Museum Center not meant to be a static cultural space, but rather constantly evolving in order to increase knowledge about the history of Castro Laboreiro. Upstairs you can view several films dedicated entirely At Brandas and the megalithic necropolis of the plateau of Castro Laboreiro

Lamas door Mouro
The "Port de Mouro Lamas" is a receiving structure, construction, animation and environmental education resulting from a fruitful collaboration between the City of Melgaço and the Peneda-Geres National Park (PGNP).
This "Gate" marks the entry into the most important and oldest protected area of our country, taking as a key hub in establishing the first contact with visitors and its routing, control and monitoring of tourist flows and information / training for a tour sustainable.
The "Lamas Port de Mouro" offers its users a set of infrastructure, equipment and resources that enable the best (in) formation of tourists / visitors, promoting the dissemination and interpretation of the natural, cultural and architectural of the vast engaging public space.

Classified as a national monument, it has inside an exhibition that seeks to raise awareness of the built heritage of the county and the historical development of the village, creating expectations and motivating the visitor to leave to the discovery of the county's heritage. The basement allows visitors to know the evolution of the historic town center, there is also a slide projection on the municipal heritage The second floor depicts the history of the county through time tape, or a series of panels from pre-history to the Contemporary Age. Also on this floor we can see booty from different periods of our history. On the top floor exhibits dedicated occur currently, archeology, thereby disclosing the assets.
