In the heart of Alto Minho, at the foot of Serra da Peneda and nestled on the banks of the river Vez, the ancient and historic village of Arcos de Valdevez prides itself on its valuable religious monuments and noble houses. The imposing Church of Senhora da Lapa, built in Baroque style in 1767, sees its oval exterior adopting a curious octagonal shape in the interior.
View from the castle hill, the village displays all the charm of its streets and uneven houses, old mansions and churches. The land that surrounds it is fertile and verdant, strewn with streams that shelter the trout.
Leaving the village on the way to the villages of Ázere and Mezio, the isolated Paço de Giela is a magnificent example of a medieval manor house, made up of a house and a stone tower.
The ancient settlement of Soajo, probably founded in the first century, nestles between the terraces of the mountainous slope and is known for its collection of old granaries (granite buildings of tomb architecture surmounted by a cross or pyramid, used to guard the ears ). Regional cuisine boasts a great roasted veal and a typical Portuguese stew.
The village of Arcos de Valdevez is also a convenient distance for those who want to visit the Natural Park of Peneda-Gerês, which, with its rugged scenery, characteristic villages and rich and varied fauna, is one of the biggest natural attractions in the country.
The riverside stands on the banks of the Lima River along the two banks, in particular with the construction of the River Lima Ecovia.
The Ermelo Ecovia is a type of route for bicycles with a distance of 5.2 km, passing through several streams and streams with fast currents that feed the Albufeira de Touvedo.
Descent from the Time of Kayak (Gondoriz - Arcos de Valdevez)
This descent begins in Gondoriz allowing to enjoy the calm of the River Vez and its clear waters. After several waterfalls ends in a quiet way on the river beach of Arcos de Valdevez.
In the village of Ermelo, the Cistercian monastery dating from the 13th century, the village of Ermelo, nestled between the Serra do Soajo and the Lima River, is an image worthy of a postcard, with its narrow streets, medieval and surrounding houses, a true beauty, on the right bank of Lima, besides the ecovia for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles, has a riverside leisure area.
Soajo is one of the most typical villages of Portugal, located in one of the slopes of the Peneda mountain range, inserted in the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
The village was a village and county seat between 1514 and the mid-nineteenth century, but its history begins much earlier, as evidenced by the Rock Sanctuary of Gião in the Soajo mountain range, and the countless tapirs and mamoes that exist in this area. It has a large set of granaries, classified as a property of public interest, from where you can see panoramic views of the mountains and the village. Also appreciate Casa da Câmara, Casa do Enes, Parish Church of São Martinho do Soajo, the mill in ruins and the pillory.
The Cistercian Monastery of Santa Maria de Ermelo, which only preserves the Romanesque church and vestiges of the ruined cloister, both classified as National Monument
The Albufeira of Touvedo, is a small paradise, that invites to a walk in the company of the nature.
