Sardoal is a Portuguese village in the district of Santarém, in the province of Ribatejo, in the Centro region and sub-region of the Middle Tejo, with less than 2 000 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a small municipality with an area of ??92.15 km² and 3 939 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Vila de Rei, to the east by Mação and to the south and west by Abrantes. Wikipedia
Populated from these prehistoric times as evidenced by several archaeological finds, the oldest document that proves the existence of Sardoal dates from 1313, and is a letter from Queen Santa Isabel, wife of King D. Dinis, which is deposited in the Municipal Library.
The village, with white and flowery houses set on top of a hill, with the streets of the oldest area paved with pebbles from the river, is very picturesque.
Among the various Churches and Chapels that during the Holy Week ceremonies are decorated with flower carpets, the Mother Church of the century stands out. XVI, where several notable works of the great renancentista painter born here are exhibited and for that reason he is known as Mestre do Sardoal.
One of Sardoal's major annual events takes place in September. It is the county festivals that enliven the streets of the village with many cultural manifestations, and it is also the ideal time to purchase regional products at the Craft Fair.
