Salvaterra de Magos is a Portuguese village belonging to the District of Santarém, and the old province of Ribatejo, with about 6 200 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 243.93 km² in area and 22 159 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Almeirim, to the east and south by Coruche, to the southwest by Benavente and to the northwest by Azambuja and Cartaxo.
Quiet village of Ribatejo, Salvaterra de Magos was in centuries past one of the court's favorite places, having been built here structures, which today are in ruins, and which allowed him to enjoy all the amenities to which they were accustomed in Lisbon. Thus, in Salvaterra there was a palace with beautiful gardens, an opera house and a royal falconry, the only one in Portugal, which shows that the main attraction of the region for such noble travelers was the great hunts that were organized here.
Surrounded by pine forests and pastures, in their fertile fields, horses and bulls used in the greatest show in the region are created - the bullfight, indispensable in the Festa do Foral, dos Toiros and Fandango, which in June animates Salvaterra de Magos.
Of gastronomy, we highlight the Açorda de Sável and the cap, a typical Ribatejo sweet, whose name is inspired by one of the fundamental elements of Campino's costume.
