Chamusca is a Portuguese village in Ribatejo, belonging to the District of Santarém, with about 3 300 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 746.01 km² in area and 10 120 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into the following parishes: Chamusca, Pinheiro Grande, Vale de Cavalos, Ulme, Semideiro, Parreira, Carregueira and Arripiado. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Vila Nova da Barquinha, to the east by Constância and Abrantes, to the southeast by Ponte de Sor, to the south by Coruche, to the west by Almeirim, Alpiarça and Santarém and to the northwest by Golegã. A white village located on the banks of the Tagus River, Chamusca is part of the Ribatejo Lezíria, an extremely fertile region where agricultural activity and cattle raising continue to be the predominant activity. This aspect is highlighted in its traditional festivals, in which the Ascension Week and the many Bullfights that take place here stand out.
In gastronomy, a special highlight for eel stew and shad açorda, complemented by regional sweets with bundles and lamprey, made with eggs and sugar, not forgetting the much appreciated regional wines.
