In Raposa, 13 km from the center, we find the remains of the Palace redone by D. Manuel I, in the 16th century. There remains a magnificent portal that would give access to the courtyard, crowned by six markedly Manueline merlons and whose arch is crowned by the royal shield and flanked by rosettes ...
Pórtico de Paço dos Negros
Almeirim
It was erected in the year 1512, as evidenced by the discharge letter of King Manuel I to his squire and first bailiff of the Paço da Ribeira de Muja, Diogo Rodrigues (*).
In this document, numerous objects are referenced for the works of Paço, among them: “… tejolo of all great luck, brickwork, portal.”
On top of this imposing Portico you can still see the battlements with their merlons. Laterally, the royal arms, with an open crown, flanked by the armillary sphere of the founding king, King Venturoso.
Legend has it that, in this place, a beautiful Moorish princess was seen watching the sun, singing and combing herself, who kept a large carving full of gold, with the king's gold sword topping it.
Legend has it that the beautiful moira still sings, but only for those who can hear it; who continues to wait with countless wealth, to offer those who dream three nights on end and have the courage to come and disenchant it.
