The Ponte de S. João was inaugurated on the day of the Saint who baptizes it, June 24, in 1991. With a project by Professor Edgar Cardoso, this bridge was built to serve as a railway crossing and thus replace the D. Maria Bridge which no longer allowed modern machines to exceed 20 km / h, limiting their load capacity.
