Vila Nova de Gaia is an important city in the north of Portugal, county seat, located on the south bank of the Douro River in front of the city of Porto.
The origin of the city possibly dates back to a Celtic castro.
It was during the 18th century that the Port Wine Warehouses were installed, which at that time was already one of the largest industries in the region.
Traditional and tourist cruises are also another strong point of the city, as are the bars located on the riverside
