The new Paços, located in the middle of Praça Nova, currently Praça Vasco da Gama, bear on the front the date of 1543, supposedly the date of completion. This beautiful example of 16th century architecture completes, with the placement of the new pillory in the space bordering the building (later removed), one of the most significant urban interventions of the 16th century, constituting, with the Igreja Matriz, a new urban centrality of Vila do Conde.
Praça Vasco da Gama
Vila do Conde
Being an architecturally sober building, we highlight the front and the staircase leading to the Salão Nobre, in which is the beautiful tribune of the executive, with the portrait of D. Maria II in the center, crowned by a carved baldachin with gold lambrequins and red. On the lower level, initially designed for the use and benefit of people who sell their goods under the palace, the composition of warhead arches through which this space is accessed stands out.
