On 8 July 1832, the Liberal Army commanded by D. Pedro IV (D. Pedro I do Brasil), camped in this square and for the first time the liberal flag was raised in Portugal. It was in Moreira that D. Pedro stayed overnight, hosted at Casa de Manuel Andrade, in a street near the square.

It was also here that the people came to greet D. Pedro IV and his army. The square is surrounded by a magnificent set of houses from the 19th century, with a highlight to D. Pedro IV and the Chapel of Cristo Rei and the Chapel of Nossa Senhora Mãe dos Homens located in the space that weekly serves for the realization of market. Source: https://www.cm-maia.pt/
