Description

Despite the similarity with the Serra da Aboboreira, this space presents a greater heterogeneity as it encompasses a greater range of natural conditions, since it already includes areas of shale, low-slope plateau spaces in the vicinity of more rugged and steep areas of agroforestry occupation , accompanied by small human settlements in the upper and middle third of small river basins. Urban agglomerations follow agricultural areas and forest stands of maritime pine and eucalyptus.

The Carneiro portela connects to the Marão massif.

The agricultural and agroforestry mosaics of Viariz, Valadares and Gestaçô, located at a lower altitude, ensure the gradual transition to the Douro. These are mosaics with high scenic value and high ecological diversity.
