Serra da Aboboreira today integrates the administrative territory of three municipalities: Amarante, Baião and Marco de Canaveses. It presents altitudes in general superior to 700 meters, with a climate of Cold Temperate Earth and a continuous geology of granites. It includes wavy relief spaces associated with plateau spaces with slopes that increase towards the headland lines where the main water lines of the territory are formed.

The open spaces with low vegetation predominate in the landscape, particularly in the plateau areas. They dominate the undergrowth and the meadows of tall grasses, perpetuated by the fires and some grazing. Domes and granite blocks are also common in the landscape. From the point of view of biodiversity, the presence of a rich fauna of birds of prey is noted, as well as residual peat bogs at the headwaters of some water lines. On the slopes of the Aboboreira mountains, spontaneous regeneration of the native oak forest is sometimes vigorous.
