If from the first settlement sites, occupied during the 5th millennium BC, we still have sparse vestiges today, the towns of the 2nd and 1st millennium already show an intense occupation of the territory, with different strategies, whose populations already worked in bronze and maintained contacts with regions further away from the Iberian Peninsula, mirrored in some objects guarded by the Archeology Center of the Municipal Museum of Baião.

Description
Megalithism and the Bronze Age occupy a prominent place in the Archeology Center.
A didactic model with 120 human figures illustrates the different stages of construction of a tapir and the respective papaya (mound in earth and stone). The visitor gets to know the different types of funerary monuments and the evolution of their ritual from the Neolithic to the Final Bronze.
The collective burial becomes more and more individual and personalized, highlighting, in the first phase, the prestigious objects such as the copper arrowheads, while in the second phase, a single offering accompanies the individual.
The evolution of the settlement during the Bronze Age is the second topic to be addressed. Of all the villages, Bouça do Frade occupies the place of primacy. Its ex-libris is a large pot of provisions decorated with medallions, with a bowl with a wing and charred wild pear seeds.
The Iron Age and Romanization are represented in a single Castro intervention: Cruito's Castro.
From the Middle Ages, the iron spur of Castelo de Matos (manorial castle of Terra de Baião) stands out, as it is the oldest in Portugal from the period of the Christian reconquest.
The educational service of the municipal museum coordinates heritage projects, organizes study visits to monuments in the municipality, activities of plastic, corporal and dramatic expression.
