Carvalhal da Reixela
Baião
This forest reflects the dynamic nature of the vegetation and how it evolved in the absence of uses and other man-made disturbances. The agricultural and pastoral abandonment allowed the recovery of spontaneous vegetation and the development of extensive oak trees, dominated by the white oak (Quercus robur) but with a frequent presence of the black oak (Quercus pyrenaica).
This forest extends over more than 15 hectares and constitutes a refuge for varied and natural species, such as the round-winged eagle, the roe deer and the wild boar. In the shade of its magnificent oak trees, we can find several, many of them endangered and difficult to observe elsewhere.
In addition to the oak trees, you can also find other tree species, some of which with reasonable expression, such as chestnut, holly, alder, willow, ash and pear tree and gilbardeira.
