The ruins of the Solar de Magalhães are the testimony of an episode that, in Amarante, left scars of war: the French invasions. It is believed that, every day that the passage of Napoleonic forces through the Ponte de São Gonçalo was delayed, General Loison retaliated, having burned this noble house, which belonged to the Magellan. The damage was violent, but it made this manor space a symbol of resistance against Napoleonic troops.
