Rio Tâmega

Rio Tâmega

In a zigzag pattern, at a rhythm that is light, the Tâmega travels a vast path between flowery and green landscapes. Amarante is one of the cities it passes through and the complicity with the municipality is immense. Now, we are talking about a region known as the “Princesa do Tâmega”.

Amarante

Description

Born in Spain - in the Serra de San Mamede, the Tâmega River flows into Portugal, in Entre-os-Rios. In the 145 kilometers it covers, it beautifies regions such as Chaves, Marco de Canaveses, the Douro and, of course, Amarante. And no less rich are the tributaries of the Tâmega, especially in the Amarantine territory - there is the River Odres, which gives life to a river beach with leisure areas, in Vila Meã; or the Olo River, which, at the end of the route, has a hydroelectric power station, the great cause of the lighting of the town of Amarante from 1917. These are rivers that flow into this larger river, which has always been part of the identity of Amarante.
