The sands of Porto Santo beach are made up of microfossils and small fragments of calcareous algae, mollusk shells and other fossilized remains of marine organisms. They are records of a past with about 30 thousand years of history, of immense biological productivity and that has reached the present day, presenting therapeutic and medicinal qualities and attributes, which are due to the physical, chemical and thermal properties of its biogenic carbonated sands, important for the treatment of orthopedic and rheumatic diseases, among other diseases.
