The Cardina Museum was created by a single man who, for his passion for the land, collected objects that are hundreds of years old and that are now part of the estate of the only private museum on the island of Porto Santo. Most of them were acquired by José Cardina, a personal investment to preserve the memory of an entire island.

Porto Santo
The museum was created in the image of the mills that existed throughout the island. Its shape is octagonal, like the windmill that existed there, on the ground it is possible to decipher a pattern that refers to the shape of the propellers, thus paying homage to one of the most important activities in the history of Porto Santo. The island was rich in cereals and even had - operating at the same time - 40 mills, which earned it the title of "Celeiro da Madeira". All of this is also documented in the museum, where it is possible to see, on the ground floor, a mill with all the utensils for preparing the flours. The finer flours would give rise to the well-known Bolo do Caco, a traditional wheat bread from the island, which was made to be consumed on Sunday, because it is made with the best flours. In the museum it is possible to purchase Porto Santo wine made by José Cardina himself. It is a high-grade wine, which was even mixed with Madeira wine, to give it a degree, which is a source of pride for the local population.
