The municipality of Lourinhã is located in the Western Region, being limited to the north by the municipalities of Peniche and Óbidos, to the south by the municipality of Torres Vedras, to the east by the municipalities of Bombarral and Cadaval and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. It belongs to the district of Lisbon, and is 63 km from the north of its headquarters, also integrating the Region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (Estremadura Litoral).

Inhabited since ancient times, it was in the Lourinhã region that the most important evidence of the presence of dinosaurs in Portugal was discovered - the fossilized eggs and the respective embryos, which are displayed in the Municipal Museum.

On the hill where the Moors built a fort, later rebuilt by Christians, it is worth visiting the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo, a beautiful example of the 14th century Gothic style. This is one of the best spots to admire the diversity of the region.

In addition to the fertile valleys and highly productive agricultural land, with large vineyards and orchards, there are also excellent beaches, some almost inaccessible and practically deserted, others very crowded and cosmopolitan.
