Pedrógão Grande, is located in the extreme northwest of the district of Leiria, almost in the geographical center of Portugal, with an area of ??approximately 129 km2, divided into three parishes; Pedrógão Grande, Vila Facaia and Graça, inserted in the grouping of municipalities of Pinhal Interior Norte, forming part of the Center Region. Adjoins the municipalities of Castanheira de Pêra, Góis, Sertã and Figueiró dos Vinhos. This regional framework, currently allows the municipality to benefit from the proximity of a diverse network of accessibility, thus being able to establish easy connections with other municipalities and neighboring urban centers.
The municipality of Pedrógão Grande is one of the regions in the country where natural beauty, popular customs and traditions, combined with the purity of the air and water are maintained, even without the pollution of uncontrolled progress. The landscapes are dynamic, with distinct characteristics and strong tourist potential.
It is a vast region of granites and schists embedded in the basins of the rivers Zêzere and Unhais and streams of Pêra and Mega, today enlarged by the reservoirs of two large dams, Cabril and Bouçã. The climate, which used to be continental in character, with harsh winters and torrid and dry summers, is much milder today, influenced by the two large reservoirs, which are also very rich fish areas (largemouth bass, barbel, boga). Pedrógão Grande is integrated in the Pinhal Interior Norte area, the largest forest spot in Europe, where pine, eucalyptus, acacia and olive trees predominate, which are of great importance in the local economy.
