Ansião is a Portuguese village in the district of Leiria, in the province of Beira Litoral and integrating the Region of Leiria in the Center of Portugal, with about 2 700 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 176.09 km² of area and 13 128 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 6 parishes. The municipality is limited to the northeast by the municipality of Penela, to the east by Figueiró dos Vinhos, to the south by Alvaiázere, to the west by Pombal and to the northwest by Soure.Distance from the city of Leiria 57 km to its district capital, 48 km from the city from coimbra and 110 km from the city of Castelo Branco.
An emblematic mark of the historical heritage of Ansião, the Monumental Complex of Santiago da Guarda is part of the Manueline Palace, classified as a National Monument in 1978 as the Manor House of the Counts of Castelo Melhor. The various historical periods brought together in the same space are also marked by a fourteenth-century tower with a medieval base, rebuilt on the ruins of a Roman Villa from the 4th and 5th centuries, discovered in 2002 and which features a rich collection of Roman mosaics.
