Seia is a Portuguese city in the district of Guarda, located in the province of Beira Alta, Centro region (Beiras Region) and sub-region of Serra da Estrela, with about 5 300 inhabitants.
It is the largest city in the Serra da Estrela sub-region and the second largest city in the District of Guarda, belongs to the Intermunicipal Community of Beiras and Serra da Estrela and is roughly equidistant between the cities of Guarda and Viseu. Seia is, together with Covilhã and Manteigas, one of the municipalities that share the highest point in mainland Portugal (Torre da Serra da Estrela) and the second highest point in the whole country, just behind the Pico Mountain, in the Azores.
This municipality offers fantastic views over the surrounding plains and its main attraction are the interesting museums: the Toy Museum, the Bread Museum and the Natural Electricity Museum, as well as the Serra da Estrela Interpretation Center
Oppidum Sena, ancient city of Sena, today Seia, was founded 2400 years ago by Túrdulos. For a long time it was dominated by the Arabs, being definitively conquered by D. Fernando Magno in 1055, who had his castle built.
Bearing in mind the privileged location of these parishes, which are housed in valleys dug by rivers and streams, which have their sources at the top of the mountain range, these "villages" are, without a doubt, the stage for a privileged encounter with natural wonders, and with the populations, who still maintain the traditions of today.
