Description Soure

The Soure Municipality belongs to the district of Coimbra and its limits, to the North, are the Municipality of Montemor-o-Velho; the East, the Counties of Condeixa-a-Nova and Penela; to the south, the municipalities of Pombal and Ansião, and to the west the municipality of Figueira da Foz. It is an integral part of the group of municipalities in the sub-region called Baixo Mondego - corresponds to a NUT of order III.

It has a total area of ??265.1 km2 and a population of approximately 21 thousand inhabitants. It is administratively divided into twelve parishes:

Geographically the Municipality of Soure has two areas with very different characteristics:

The mountainous area, which is part of the Sicó sub-region, consists of the parishes of Tapéus, Degracias and Pombalinho. The production of quality cheese remains one of the characteristic activities. Also worth mentioning is the operation of limestone extraction units and an industrial unit for roasting dried fruits.

The rest of the municipality, which is flatter, dominated by the alluvial basins of the Anços, Arunca and Pranto rivers, with greater soil richness and a greater proximity to the main communication axes of the region and the country, naturally, has shown a higher rate of development , based on a diversified framework of activities at the sectoral level.
