The Municipality of Arganil, district of Coimbra, is located in Pinhal Interior Norte.
It is limited to the north by Tábua and Oliveira do Hospital; to the west by Penacova and Vila Nova de Poiares; to the south by Góis and Pampilhosa da Serra; and to this one by Covilhã and Seia, from Guarda district. It is further bounded to the Southeast by the River Ceira and to the North by the River Alva.
It has an area of ??332.9 km2, which is subdivided into 14 parishes and parish unions: Arganil, Benfeita, Celavisa, Folques, Piódão, Orchards, Pombeiro da Beira, São Martinho da Cortiça, Sarzedo, Secarias, Cerdeira and Moura da Serra , Côja and Barril de Alva, Vila Cova do Alva and Anceriz, Cepos and Teixeira.
The oldest vestiges in the history of the municipality of arganil are located in Lomba do canho and Dolmem dos Moinhos de Vento, very close to the village of Arganil. Due to the chronology of its construction and occupation, centered in the second and third quarters of the 1st century BC, well before the creation of the province of Lusitania, the military installation corresponds to a phase of appropriation of the territory by the Romans.
