Proença-a-Nova is a Portuguese village belonging to the district of Castelo Branco, statistical region of the Center and sub-region of Beira Baixa, part of the traditional province with the same name, ecclesiastically in the diocese of Portalegre-Castelo Branco. It is the county seat, with about 8 000 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 385.39 km² of area and 8 314 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Oleiros, to the northeast by Castelo Branco, to the east by Vila Velha de Ródão, to the southwest by Mação and to the northwest by Sertã.
Surrounded by extensive forested areas and cultivated fields, in which we highlight the olive groves and cherry trees that bloom in spring, covering vast areas of an enormous white blanket, in a stunning spectacle, Proença-a-Nova is a village to be discovered right in the center of the country.
From ancient times, the Roman bridge over the Pracana stream in São Pedro do Esteval, the typical villages of Figueira and Pedreira are preserved, and in the village the Mother Church with a beautiful century carving is worth a visit. In the vicinity, the river beaches of Aldeia Ruiva, Fróia and Malhadal, are places of great demand, especially during the summer season.
The gastronomy includes maranhos and feijoadas, sausages and goat cheese, as well as cavacas and honey and olive cakes.
