Vinhais is a beautiful village, county seat, located in the extreme north of Portugal, in Trás-os-Montes, in a flat area on the left bank of the Trout stream, surrounded by hills and the beautiful Coroa Mountain to wrap it.
This is a region with archaeological vestiges of ancient human occupation, where you can find cave inscriptions and engravings and several Castros.
Vinhais appears referenced in the thirteenth century, as a region, where various civilizations, such as the Romana, passed by, passing here an important military road that linked Braga to Astorga. Suevos, Visigodos and Moors here passed, being Vinhais repopulated in the time of the domination of the kings of Castile and Leon.
This is a site of ancient history, with an engaging nature of great beauty and brilliance.
It is worth to visit the historical, architectural, social and natural heritage of the Vinhais region, which has monuments such as the Castle, the Convent of St. Francis, the Church of San Facundo, with a Romanesque design, the Manueline Pillory, century, or the typical building that housed the Paços do Concelho.
