Vimioso is located in the Northeast Transmontano, on a plateau between the rivers Maçãs and Angueira, tributaries of the river Sabor.
Its relief is characterized by fairly steep cliffs on the banks of the rivers Angueira, Maçãs and Sabor and flat lands with good gardens and where olive, almond, vines, cork oaks and other species are grown. The economy of Vimioso is based on agriculture and livestock which have been drastically reducing its activity.
The villages that border the municipality of Miranda do Douro are influenced by the dialect accent of the Mirandese Plateau.
Every year the S. Lourenço Fair is held on August 10. It's a municipal holiday.
Twenty years ago it was an important concentration of livestock where large animal businesses were carried out, especially cattle of the Miranda breed. The smokestack manufactured throughout the county is of great quality. The alheiras or cafes are excellent, the chouriça, the salpicão, the butelo, the sour, the chaviano, are very appreciated specialties.
