As one of the youngest municipalities in Portugal, Vizela was the first city in the North of Portugal to be classified as a Cittaslow, an international movement whose objective is to identify small towns and cities that offer a better quality of life and a healthier rhythm for their populations.
Of the various peoples who passed through this land, it was the Romans who left the most marks.
It was they who discovered the medicinal properties of the hot springs in this area and which are still used today for the treatment of various pathologies, such as skin diseases, respiratory diseases and rheumatic diseases.
In addition to thermal baths, another important point of attraction of the county has always been what is now called religious tourism, mainly due to the fact that Vizela is located in one of the Santiago Way.
