The history of the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso goes back many centuries. If the traces of human occupation of these lands indicate chronologies of thousands of years before Christ, thanks to the existence of prehistoric testimonies, as is perceptible from the archaeological surveys carried out, where sites of megalithic cultures (18), of the Chalcolithic and Bronze Age abound (4), Iron Age settlements (10), with dozens of traces of the Roman presence and Romanization of these lands. The testimonies of the settlement of the lands of Lanhoso until today, grow significantly for later chronologies, already of our Era.
These lands have been inhabited since time immemorial - at least three thousand years before Christ, where today there are traces of this occupation.
In the access to the largest granite monolith of the Iberian Peninsula, the Castle of Lanhoso is located, which according to local legends, was where D. Afonso Henriques arrested his own mother to assert himself.
Place where gold is worked through the secular art of filigree, Póvoa de Lanhoso also stands out for its gastronomy, where reign of cod with hot potatoes, lamb with S. José and steak with Romaria, always accompanied for the region's green wine.
