The Sociedade Martins Sarmento is a Cultural Institution founded in 1881. To its valuable and diverse heritage belongs the Archaeological Museum "Martins Sarmento", the main reference of Castro culture in Portugal and one of the most important museums in the whole European space where that culture was manifested .

The museum was born in 1885 with the inauguration of a Deposit of objects of archaeological value and from 1888 conditions were created for its dignified installation in a gallery created on the beautiful cloister of S. Domingos (14th century).
