Convent and church started to be built on November 3, 1400, with the authorization of D. João I, despite references to an earlier complex (13th century). The church underwent several changes between the centuries. XV and XVIII. We highlight the main portal of reminiscences still Romanesque; the Gothic headboard with a Battalion influence; the Chapter Room and the Cloister of Mannerist arrangement.

However, the most important transformation takes place in the interior, here from Gothic to Baroque. Tiles of hagiographic character are introduced, reporting the life of Santo António; a new sacristy with a Joanine costume is elaborated, with a painted coffered ceiling and blackwood arches; and, finally, the main altarpiece, designed by Miguel Francisco da Silva, in 1743 and executed by Manuel da Costa Andrade is built.
The century. XX brings restoration works without significant changes to the general appearance of the building and the classification of Public Interest Property.
