Notes from the history of Guimarães allude to the existence of a remote templete, invoking the martyr S. Sebastião, who existed at the western end of Campo de S. Francisco until 1570, when the church was erected there. With the extinction of religious orders and the demolition of the parish church in 1892, the church of São Sebastião started to occupy the old convent of Santa Rosa de Lima (Dominicas Temple), built between 1727 and 1737.
