The origins of the church of S. Domingos go back to the construction of the first Dominican monastery in Guimarães, erected between 1271 and 1278. Later, D. Dinis ordered the transfer of the building site, works that were completed in 1397. During the century. XVIII and XIX the original design of the building is deeply altered, competing with Gothic elements reminiscent of Baroque and Romanesque.

After some extinctions, demolitions, acquisitions and assignments, the Santíssimo Sacramento of the Church of S. Paio is taken to the Church of S. Domingos, which, since 1914, has been invested as a parish in the parish of S. Paio. The cloister of S. Domingos has been a national monument since 1910 and the church has been a property of public interest since 1959. The sacristy of this church is musealized, worth a visit.
