The construction of the church of S. Dâmaso, began in the first half of the 17th century and ended only in the following century.
Rua de Dona Mafalda 37 4800
Guimarães
The chancel has a notable gilded altarpiece, by the Portuguese carver Pedro Coelho and the ceiling is coffered. The nave is also decorated with altarpieces in Portuguese style from the late 17th century and early 18th century. The carving combines admirably with the historic tiles that decorate its interior. Executed during the first half of the 18th century, they are attributed to the monogrammer PMP and tell episodes from the life of Pope S. Damaso.
