Capelas dos Passos da Paixão de Cristo

The Steps or Stations of the Cross are popular demonstrations of religiosity and devotion to the Passion of Christ, which were present not only in the temples, but sometimes spread in small oratories throughout the city.

Description

In Guimarães, the Passos were seven at the beginning and were built in 1727 by the Brotherhood of Nossa Senhora da Consolação and Santos Passos. Over time and according to the growth of the city, they were transferred or dismantled which led to great difficulty in identification, since the sculptures were either dispersed or reassembled arbitrarily during demolitions or transfers.

Today we only have five: Passo do Largo do Carmo, Passo de Rua de Santa Maria, Passo do Largo João Franco, Passo da Senhora da Guia and Passo do Campo da Feira.
