Ovar is a Portuguese city, located in the District of Aveiro, in the Center region and in the Region of Aveiro.
It is the seat of a municipality, being subdivided into 5 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Espinho, to the northeast by Santa Maria da Feira, to the east by Oliveira de Azeméis, to the south by Estarreja and Murtosa and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, which bathes close to 15 km of its coast, contributing for a mild climate and pleasant beaches.
In Ovar, tiles are a heritage asset and a differentiating element that marks the city's image and history. The expression OVAR - CIDADE MUSEU VIVO DO AZULEJO, attributed by Rafael Salinas Calado *, results from the quantity and diversity of tiled facades and ornaments dating from the 19th / 20th century. In order to safeguard, enhance and preserve the ceramic heritage of this municipality, in 2000, the Azulejo Conservation and Restoration Workshop (ACRA) was created by the Municipality of Ovar.
Its Heritage deserves our attention for several reasons, some of which, the Historic Center of Pereira Jusã, Válega, House and Chapel of Bom Sucesso (House of the People of Válega), Válega, House and Chapel of the Nunes da Silva Family, Conjunto of Palheiros de Esmoriz and Cortegaça, Set of the Chapels of the Passos do Senhor, Old Cemetery and Mother Church of Cortegaça, Casa dos Campos (Júlio Dinis Museum - An Ovar House), Municipal Library of Ovar, Art Center of Ovar, Museums and much more more.
Regarding its natural heritage, the municipality of Ovar is a privileged area in many aspects, one of which is its wonderful coastline of beautiful beaches with fine white sand. At the visitor's disposal are numerous seaside terraces, bars and restaurants. Also noteworthy is the exceptional quality. We also highlight the Ria de Aveiro, the Buçaquinho environmental park, Barrinha de Esmorriz, walkways, their forests, and the Urban park of Ovar.
