1879 is the date of the initial design of the lighthouse, designed by Eng. Paulo Benjamim Cabral, which envisaged a tower with an octagonal section of 55 meters in height, as well as the beginning of its construction. The work was initially directed by engineer Silvério Pereira da Silva and, later, by engineer José Maria de Mello e Matos, coming into operation in 1893.
