Located just 45 kilometers from the city of Porto, the municipality of Castelo de Paiva is the furthest from the district to which it belongs (Aveiro), stretching from the limits of Arouca to the Douro River, between the municipalities of Cinfães, Gondomar and Santa Maria da Feira.
The municipality of Paivense is a strip of land neatly cut between the provinces of Beira and the Douro Litoral and, therefore, shares the beauty of this charming region.
The municipality has a surface area of ??109 square kilometers, a population of around 17 thousand inhabitants and is part of the Diocese of Porto. Traditionally rural, it was in the past marked by the coal mining of Pejão. As a result of a municipal policy, oriented towards local economic conversion, new and modern manufacturing units appeared, in industrial areas, properly infrastructure and built for the purpose, with emphasis on investments in the areas of footwear, textiles, wood and furniture. , metalworking and construction of motor homes and motorhomes, which brought more progress and jobs to the region.
The privileged situation of the municipality in relation to the outlets for manufactured products has been greatly improved with the construction of the Sardoura River Port, which has since been expanded to allow the docking of two freighters simultaneously, an integrated structure in the Rio's navigability project Douro, which came to contribute to the development of the region's economy.
