Located in the extreme west, the village of Madalena do Pico was considered the City of Wine 2017, for the simple fact of being a great producer of the famous Azores Wine, of the verdelho variety, which is the essence of the local lifestyle, thanks to the good climatic conditions and the peculiarities of volcanic soils.

Historically, Madalena has always developed agriculture, livestock and fishing, which has resulted in enormous success for regional trade, especially because of its sea port and its proximity to the neighboring island of Faial. And this can be easily seen by the structure of the place, which brings to mind the agricultural life, in addition to the architecture of the buildings, wineries, warehouses, vineyard pens, among others.
